A thermal paper roll consists of a base paper (typically virgin pulp) coated with a heat-sensitive layer containing leuco dyes and developers. When heat is applied, the coating turns black to create an image. Kingcolor uses only BPA-free, phenol-free coatings for maximum safety.
Traditional thermal paper used BPA. Modern standards, especially in North America and EU, require BPA-free and phenol-free alternatives. Kingcolor offers full BPA-free and phenol-free certifications (FDA, REACH compliant).
The most common sizes for POS systems are 57mm x 40mm (1" core) and 80mm x 80mm (3" core). However, we offer customization from 20mm up to 220mm width, with custom core sizes and roll length up to 150m.
Standard thermal paper has a shelf life of 3 years (image lasts 5-7 years). Our premium archival grade maintains readability for up to 10-15 years in dark storage conditions. We recommend storing rolls in a cool, dry environment (below 25°C / 77°F).
Thermal paper uses heat to create an image and requires a thermal printer. Carbonless paper (or NCR paper) uses pressure to transfer ink from one layer to another and is used for manual or impact-printed forms like invoices and delivery notes. Kingcolor produces both.
